My mouth is filled with plastic glowing stars, They're falling out. Do you think you raised a monster? The streets of Nothern Indiana grow brighter the more I drool & stumble. What can I say? So you will not cringe when I speak. What should I be? So you'll quit looking at me that way. When I sleep I'm wading in the Saint Mary's River waist deep. Bribing the blue gill for some sense of relief. Clawing at the strings, hanging from that tree In Pleasant Mills where people throw their shoes, I've been trying on their boots. I'm trying to be somebody new. Hesitation. Disappointment again. Now I feel stupid. I'm tracing my old name onto my hips. I'm laying my cards out. I'm barring these apologies from my lips. When I sleep I'm wading in the Saint Mary's River waist deep. Bribing the blue gill for some sense of relief. Clawing at the strings, hanging from that tree In Pleasant Mills where people throw their shoes, I've been trying on their boots. I'm trying to be somebody new.

This town is way to small I can feel the temperate swell at the silence That I fill with nervous questions. I am always 12 years old, I am in my sunday school, And I am ugly, scared, and I am pulling at my sleeves. So you tell me, I cannot change the weather. I know I've been a wreck, But sometimes you just can't fight the current, So I've been lying in the riverbed Painting all the rocks a brilliant red. Trying to remember the way you held your hands In those crushed velvet seats. Trying to compress. Trying to exist in a much smaller state. You called me every night at 10 To see if I still cried at the end of every movie, And your voice was so soft I always nearly fell asleep Right before you asked me, "do you still love me?" And I told you, "I cannot change the weather." I know I've been a wreck, But sometimes you just can't fight the current, So I've been lying in the riverbed Painting all the rocks a brilliant red. Trying to remember the way you held your hands In those crushed velvet seats. Trying to compress. Trying to exist in a much smaller state.
